The spread of COVID-19 has had enormous consequences for Swedish society. We are in the middle of a very serious situation in which it is extremely difficult to make decisions about a very uncertain future. Nonetheless, there comes a critical point at which we must make the best decision we can, and unfortunately, that time is now.

At this point we do not see any indications that the current situation will get any better; Sweden’s limits against large gatherings will most likely apply even during race week. In the last couple of weeks, we have been forced to wrestle with very challenging decisions, including the possibility of organizing the race as planned or organizing it in alternative ways. But given the current advice of the authorities and the safety of all people involved, the race organization has decided to play it safe and therefore cancel the event.

All participants that are registered as of 1 May through Race.se will automatically have their registration transferred to the 2021 event. Since we have already conducted significant planning for the 2020 event and incurred a number of costs, it is simply not economically feasible for us to return the full starting fee, at least not given our goal that the race continues into the future.

We also offer two alternatives: we will accept a change of name on your registration in the same registered class or a partial 50% refund of the starting fee. Name change can be done until 1 January 2021. Partial refund can be done until 1 July 2020.   Requests for these alternatives should be sent to anders.w@areextremechallenge.se

We are all disappointed and heavily affected by this difficult decision to cancel the 2020 event. We have explored a variety of different options and tried our best to make this work; sadly, it wasn’t possible.  But even through this depressing time we are doing our best to look forward to the future to secure the event’s long and storied history.

We look forward to welcoming you back to ÅEC  2021 on 3 July — Let Nature Challenge You!

Happy training - and stay healthy!

Sincerely

Henrik, Anders W, Anders N, Matilda and Martin
