Race Classes

There are several ways to compete in ÅEC on the 29th of June 2019.

(Or choose ÅEC Run-N-Bike, which takes place on the same day)

  • River Class

    Elite Women/Men or Senior (50+) Women/Men

Individual completes entire course, which includes paddling in Class II rapids and the lake (25 km), running over Mt. Åreskutan (17 km), and mountain biking back to Åre town square (30 km).

This class is the unofficial Open European Championship for Multisport and offers prize money. Don’t be fooled by this race class’s name: you do not have to be an elite endurance athlete to compete in RIVER CLASS, but you should be a well trained individual that has also met the whitewater paddling requirements for RIVER CLASS. • Lake Class Solo

    Women/Men

Individual completes entire course, just as the RIVER CLASS SOLO, but only paddles 10 km on the lake instead of 25 km with class II rapids. Run over Mt. Åreskutan (17 km) + mountain bike to Åre town square (30 km). NOTE - no kayak portage in this class, which makes it better for competitors with a heavy kayak.

  • Lake Class Duo

    Women/Mix/Men

Two teammates complete the entire course together and must cross the finish line at the same time. The clocks stops when the last participant crosses the line. Participants paddle on the lake (18 km), run over Mt. Åreskutan (17 km), and mountain bike to Åre town square (30 km).

  • Lake Class Team Relay

    Women/Mix/Men

A kayaker, runner, and cyclist pass the baton across sections. The change of teammates occurs in the two transition areas. The kayaker paddles the lake (18 km), the runner runs over Mt. Åreskutan (17 km), and mountain biker rides back to Åre town square (30 km).
