3. Timing

Official timing is managed by Race.se. Official time-keeping personnel from Race.se will be clearly identified at the timing points wearing yellow jerseys (see picture).

Check in. It is the racer's responsibility to check-in with time-keeping personnel in the start area.

  • Check in Tännforsen (RIVER CLASS): 05:00 – 06:45
  • Check in Draklanda (LAKE CLASS): 06:00 – 07:45

The train. All racers cross a train track when leaving Transition #1 (Draklanda). You must stop for the train. We will credit you for “waiting” time in the final results. Failure to stop results in disqualification.

4. ÅEC Live

Family and friends can follow the race LIVE. We will post results as racers pass the checkpoints and the finish line. Follow racers at areextremechallenge.se/live. Note that official results are posted within 24 hours of finish.

7. Safety instructions

MARTIN, I ALREADY HAVE THIS TEXT IN SWEDISH BELOW SO I JUS TPASTED IT IN HERE FOR YOU...

8. Whitewater paddling requirement (RIVER CLASS only)

All RIVER CLASS participants must send proof of whitewater paddling knowledge at least two weeks prior to the race by emailing whitewater@areextremechallenge.se. Read more on our website under "preparation."  This does NOT apply for LAKE CLASS participants.

The requirements are based on international standards so non-Swedish competitors can obtain the necessary certification. Email the ”whitewater” address above if you have questions.

9. Transport of equipment/racer/clothes

You do not have to have a support crew. For a small cost, we can take care of transport:

  • We drive your kayak + equipment to the start – Tännforsen (RIVER CLASS) or Draklanda (LAKE CLASS)
  • We drive your bike and equipment to the transition in Huså
  • We drive you to the start on race day – Tännforsen or Draklanda.

Booking
You can book this transport service (1) when you sign up for the race via race.se/aec, (2) at any time by going to race.se/aec (select "ÅEC Extras") or (3) at Race Office, Copperhill Mountain Lodge, on Thursday or Friday morning before the race. Read more here.

Self transport.  You can also transport your gear yourself the day before. Read more here

Clothes left on course. Clothes accidently left on the course will be transported back to the Race Office at Copperhill. Items can be collected after 17:00 Saturday.

14. Program

A detailed schedule for race week can be found here.

15. Training on the course

Competitors can train on the course in the weeks before the race. Please tread lightly and show respect to landowners if you wish for this race to continue long into the future. Race organization will mark the running and biking course by Wednesday of Race Week. Please note:

  • Please be aware of (and stop for!) horses when riding the bike section in Björnen prior to race day.
  • RIVER CLASS participants: please do NOT go through the white gate at the second portage with your kayak, as we do on race day. Instead, follow the ÅEC signs and continue down the gravel road and cut through the forest back to the river after the waterfall. Please respect this landowner so we can continue to race here!

16. Parking and transport:

MARTIN PLEASE UPDATE AND FIX THIS IN ENGLISH FIRST, THEN TRANSALTE.  SEND THIS NEWEST ENGLISH INFO TO ME TO UPDATE THAT VERSION

Parking Copperhill Race Hotel. We encourage carpooling up to the hotel. Follow instructions from parking attendants and ÅEC “P” signs. Violations will result in a parking ticket! A few tips:

  • See maps for parking areas around Copperhill.
  • OK to park in the hotel parking lot where marked (if you are a hotel guest you can park in the garage, talk to reception when you check in)
  • OK to park in the private apartments nearest the hotel, where marked.
  • Ok to park along access road to the hotel where marked, but only on the west side (right side when descending) and only down to the designated point on the map. This means you need to make a U turn on the way up in order to park on the correct side. There are several places to do a safe U turn.

Parking Huså and Draklanda transition areas.
